2006-08-25 Closedown!

What a strange week! Tuesday nights session everyone was very tired, and it all turned into a bit of a mess when Steve said he couldn't make 2 sessions a week, which is what we really need if we are to gig soon. We left not having resolved anything, and it seemed like things were going from bad to worse. The jam session itself went ok, but we're not together as we should be, and that was evident with Weapon.

HOWEVER! On Thursday, the potential of a session full of tension was imminent! Coupled with the fact that Steve texted us that he was going to be late. We began to jam, and we made so much progress! Dunno about the others, but I thought Steve wasn't going to show, and I was getting a little dispondent. However, at about 8.15, he came in, plugged in, and had loads of suggestions for songs, and was a completely different person than he was on Tuesday! He was the most positive I have ever seen him, and he looked like he really wanted to make things work! It was such a relief!

Then we began to jam, and it was amazing! At the end of Closedown, I was gobsmacked! I think everyone else was too! It was amazing, and we just sounded so professional! I honestly have not heard a song sound so good in a band, and it sent shivers down my spine! WE WERE GETTING SOMEWHERE! The rest of the jam went really well, and we all were really focussed!

At the end, I made a joke about getting knuckle-dusters out to discuss rehearsals, and we talked about it like we should have on Tuesday. We then had a hilarious discussion about band names! Steve and I shook hands at the end of the evening - hopefully the last time we'll have to make up for a stupid argument!

We're very close.

Set list:
  • Come To Me
  • DLYN
  • Closedown
  • Weapon

2006-08-16 Let's Stick Together

Who would have thought? After the last session, I was preparing for the worst, but it turned out to be an amazing session! We seemed to be a lot more relaxed, and had a bit of a laugh! It seems that now we really want to do a gig, and we're not far away.

I stuck up a set list on the wall so everyone could see it, and that really helped - in the end we replaced Warm with Seen To Be Worn, so the set list looked like this:
1
  • COME TO ME
  • DON’T LOSE YOUR NERVE
  • CLOSEDOWN
  • WEAPON
  • SEEN TO BE WORN
  • AM I CLOSE?
2
  • ADVICE
  • INNER MOMENT
  • BURN
  • STARS
  • CASUALTY
  • WINTER’S HERE
  • WARM
Kyle and Duffs were chipping in with what they think the songs should sound like, which was great. Stephen was worried about the set list, and wanted Inner Moment in, but we can't have 2 slow songs in a set of 6. Duffy suggested we time how long the set is, then decide - very diplomatic!

Kyle's drumming was excellent, Duffy is going to do some backing vocals, and did some good bass work, and Steve is still feeling his was around some songs. Am I Close still top, with Closedown, Seen and Weapon doing well. DLYN needs more guitars, and Come To Me is not quite there yet - understandable as I now play the arp, and Steve layers on top.

Messed around with each others instruments, ooer, which Steve went for food, which was hilarious!

We all agreed on our name now, and Kyle will be doing some artwork.

Seems like it is all coming together!

2008-08-14 Firehouse

Well, my trip to the UK didn't do us any favours - the songs didn't sound very polished, and people couldn't remember how to start and finish certain songs, which was a little annoying, and we started late, which didn't help. Oh well, a bit rusty, but some songs went very well. Can't complain too much...I'm sure the next one will be much better!

New set list:
  • Come To Me
  • DLYN
  • Closedown
  • Warm
  • Weapon
  • Am I Close?
This seems a lot more balanced.

2 sessions a week for the next 2-3 weeks - then we'll see how we go!
